Middle of a memory

Middle of a memory

This is the fourth in a the moments on the Mother Road series of paintings inspired by a road trip across America on Route 66.

I am planning a large painting of a scene similar to this and decided to start with a miniature painting first.

This is the Blue Swallow Motel in Tucumcari, New Mexico, which is one of the most iconic neon signs along Route 66.  Unfortunately they had no vacancies the night we were there but we still got some great photos, one of which I used as the reference for this painting.

All the paintings in this series have titles which relate to songs we heard on local radios during our road trip and as we stayed in Tucumcari the day we'd reached the mid-point of the road trip, Middle of a memory seemed appropriate!

This has been painted using acrylic inks and has been sprayed with satin varnish to protect against dust and UV light.  This is a tiny canvas and comes with its own small wooden display easel.
